Reliable information on the internet for pain and injury: it can be hard to find

Google and more recently AI are a very common tool used by people when we develop pains, aches or sustain injuries. More and more people come in having already worked out their own diagnosis and treatment pain. This is also referred to as Dr Google.

And we don’t blame anyone for doing this. Most people are also aware about where AI and Google gets information: websites made people often with good intentions but strong biases. And unfortunately, websites are often not constantly updated, so old information continues to live on websites forever. What this can lead to is outdated, incorrect information.

It can often be very challenging to navigate all the information that is out there, a lot of it contradicts itself and it can lead to a lot of confusion. Which makes sense: pain and injuries are more grey then black and white, but grey doesn’t get attention or clicks, while black and white creates views and engagement.

There are not a lot of sources (websites, Youtube, social media accounts) that we recommend to people. However, this is one we can get behind. This Youtube account is made by a physician, professor and pain specialist; Dr Andrea Furlan. The channel has numerous videos on numerous topics related to pain, musculoskeletal health and injuries. What we love about it, is that it is not overly biased, topics are presented in a neutral and evidence based manner. Of course, Dr Furlan will have her own biases (at the end of the day, we all do), so we can’t take this is all as the truth. We feel like this content is closer to honest information. It also has some great practical follow along videos (see below).
