METABOLIC CONDITIONS

Exercise has been shown to have a positive effect on lowering cholesterol and improving general cardiovascular health, with the most benefit being seen with regular engagement with resistance training (strength training) and cardiovascular training.

Where does Adapt Movement come in?

If you are perhaps wanting to start becoming more active or start exercising regularly, we can assist you in creating a plan of attack. We would look to explore your personal circumstances, assess your fitness levels and collaborate on a plan that is most suited and is most realistic in the long-term. If you are already physically active, we may be able to see if there are any other ways to optimize your routine.

Lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise can play a significant effect on insulin and blood sugar levels. For this reason, regular exercise plays an important role in the management of diabetes. In addition, exercise can also assist in reducing the risk of developing diabetes as well as reducing the risk of progression from pre-diabetes to diabetes, especially if combined with dietary and other lifestyle modifications.

Regular exercise is very challenging to achieve and maintain for the majority of people for various reasons. At Adapt Movement our exercise physiologists are well aware of this, and aim to figure out a plan that works for your lifestyle, circumstances and motivation. This means that for the majority of people, this would not be running marathons or lifting heavy weights. We meet you where you are in terms of physical fitness and readiness for action. We aim to make exercise/physical activity enjoyable, achievable and realistic as we know these are more likely to lead to long-term engagement. For the people that are already very active we can assist in seeing if there are any ways to make your exercise routines most efficient for blood sugar level management.

Weight management is a sensitive and controversial topic. There are strong arguments on both sides of the argument, one argument that extreme BMI’s are related to several chronic diseases while on the other hand that people with high BMIs may actually be very healthy if they live a healthy lifestyle. At Adapt Movement we acknowledge both sides however, from our research we have concluded that it may actually be body composition and lifestyle factors that we want to be addressing. There is a lot of research that demonstrates that weight loss is extremely difficult to achieve and especially in the long-term. Exercise also seems to play an important role in improving body composition (e.g., increase health tissue like muscle) however, plays quite a limiting role in weight loss. This is improved slightly when combined with dietary changes. Therefore, we work closely together with Tanya Dale (dietitian). At Adapt Movement we do not suggest that we can get you to lose significant weight and we do not promote this type of service. However, we can assist you in including regular exercise or physical activity into your lifestyle, to improve metabolic health and body composition.
